Is the Corvette E-Ray Fully Electric?

With its new electric power, many are wondering: Is the Corvette E-Ray fully electric? No, the Corvette E-Ray is not fully electric. Rather it builds on the standard Corvette Stingray by combining the rear-mid-mounted 6.2L V8 engine with an electric motor mounted to the front axle. The gasoline engine powers the rear wheels while the electric motor powers the front wheels. This design allows for some flexibility for your Columbus commute.

How Does the Corvette E-Ray Work?

If the Corvette E-Ray isn’t fully electric, then how does the Corvette E-Ray work? The Corvette E-Ray can operate in front-wheel drive only or electrified all-wheel drive for maximum performance on the track or in inclement weather conditions. Check out the breakdown below about the the Corvette E-Ray works:

  • Stealth Mode: In Stealth Mode, the Corvette E-Ray runs solely on the front motor up to 45 mph for 3 to 4 miles. If road speeds exceed 45 mph or the battery gets low, the Corvette E-Ray will revert to all-wheel drive. Stealth Mode allows you to quietly leave your Blair neighborhood without firing up the gasoline engine early in the morning.
  • Standard Mode or Electrified All-Wheel Drive (eAWD): When operating in Standard Mode, the Corvette E-Ray uses the rear-mid-mounted V8 engine to power the rear wheels and the front axle-mounted electric motor to power the front wheels. The Corvette E-Ray model’s eAWD allows it to excel in straight-line acceleration, in the corners on the racetrack or your favorite curvy road, or in wet weather conditions.

How Fast is the Corvette E-Ray?

The new Corvette E-Ray is one of the fastest Corvette models ever produced (the new C8 Corvette Z06 has roughly the same performance). Power for the Corvette E-Ray comes from a rear-mid-mounted 6.2L V8 engine that powers the rear wheels and an electric motor mounted to the front axle. So, how fast is the Corvette E-Ray?
